Cells and Vaccines fight off the coronavirus!

SDGs: Good health and well being, Quality education
I investigated an issue about the COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 5 to 11 in South Korea. After the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety approved the use of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine Comirnaty for 5-11-year-olds, South Korea began vaccinating them against COVID-19 on March 31st. South Korea was not the only country to vaccinate them; in fact, several European nations and the United States have already been vaccinating them in order to contain the raging pandemic. Even though it has been about 5 weeks since the vaccination began, only 45,000 children have been vaccinated, which results in a vaccination rate of 1.4%.

For the well-being of children and the community in South Korea, I believe that it is important for children to learn about vaccines, make safe decisions with their parents, and hopefully get vaccinated. In order to achieve this goal, I created an educational video that contains general information about COVID-19 vaccines. It mainly explains how they work to protect us from the virus. The video is currently uploaded on Youtube and anyone can watch it. The video is only about 3 minutes long and slowly paced so that children can focus easily. I used my art skills to create child-friendly animations and editing skills to incorporate sound effects into the video. There are English subtitles for English speakers. The video contains a Korean narration.

We all have to keep informed during a pandemic because it’s our responsibility to help reduce the spread of coronavirus. It’s crucial to know what actions we can take and how to fulfill those actions. Staying informed about the coronavirus situation will protect our own health and the health of our neighbors.
